On June 12, witnessed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, CNPC and KazMunayGas signed an agreement in principle on design, financing, construction and operation of the phase-ⅡKazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline.
According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly build the phase-ⅡKazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline in order to meet gas demand in south
Kazakhstan
and seek a possibility of exporting Caspian gas to China through the pipeline.
The Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline is an important part of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline. On August 2007, China and Kazakhstan signed an inter-government agreement on the construction of the Kazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline. Connected with the Second West-East Gas Pipeline, the phase-Ⅰproject has a total length of 1,300 kilometers, and its Line A became operational in December 2009. The phase-Ⅱproject will have a total length of 1,400 kilometers. The Chinese and Kazakh governments signed an agreement to confirm the implementation of the phase-ⅡKazakhstan-China Gas Pipeline in October 2009.
